Top Ten Things to Do in Cambridge
No.1 – Punting
This is quintessentially Cambridge. Of course this is also done in Oxford but not half as well. This is a great way to see The Backs of 7 of the colleges and their bridges. We have a whole page dedicated to this activity.
No.2 – A Bike Tour
This is a great way to see as much of the city as possible in a short space of time. There is only one bike tour operator http://www.cambridgebiketours.co.uk/index.htm
No.3 – Visit Kings College Chapel
This is open most days with access from the north door. Entry fee is currently £6.50 for adults, however a top tip is to go to evensong at 5pm Mon-Sat 10:30am and 3:30pm Sun, which is a sung service by the choristers. Totally free of charge. (closed August and September) http://www.kings.cam.ac.uk/chapel/
No.4 – Visit Trinity Great Court
Famous for the Great Court Run at Trinity College in under 43.6seconds on the strike of noon on the day of the Matriculation Dinner as performed by Abraham in the movie Chariots of Fire (actually filmed at Eton). Our recommendation is that you do this as apart of a walking or bike tour. Our favourite walking tour operator is http://www.oxbridgetours.com/ as they use current students as guides.
No.5 – Have a pint of real ale in The Eagle pub
You can also read some of the comments on the ceiling in the back room, left by WWII pilots.
No.6 – Have a glass of wine at the roof top bar at The Varsity Hotel www.thevarsityhotel.co.uk
No.7 – Eat Crème Brûlée in a college dining hall www.cambridgecollegesupperclub.com
No.8 – Cox an Eight at 5:30am on the Cam (takes 10weeks of induction lessons)
No.9 – Watch a Footlights performance www.footlights.org
No.10 – Read AA Milne’s manuscript of ‘Winnie the Pooh’ in The Wren Library at Trinity College. Totally free of charge. 12noon to 2pm during the week.
